What is an Autonomous System Number (ASN)?
Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs) are globally unique identifiers for IP
networks. They are assigned by the same organizations which allocate IP
addresses. Organizations which operate routable Internet networks, for
example companies, universities, or government departments, have an ASN
assigned to them.
INOC-DBA uses ASN's to uniquely associate phone lines with organizations.
For example, the phone line "3856*111" uses ASN 3856 which is assigned
to PCH, the maintainer of INOC-DBA. When a new organization is created
in our system we ask you to provide at least one ASN which will
uniquely identify it.
You can find out your organization's assigned ASNs by asking your IT
department. If you are unable to determine your organization's ASN or
you do not have one assigned, please contact
operator@pch.net for assistance.
More information about ASN's can be found in the
Autonomous System Numbers FAQ.
