Instructions for Setting Up Password Authentication on INOC-DBA Phones

Effective July 9, 2004 The INOC-DBA phone system will begin using password authentication in order to control access.

In order to use the INOC-DBA phones after that date you will have to manually set the userid and password on your phone set to match your login and password on the INOC-DBA web site. This must be done for each phone line.

These instructions will take you through the steps for setting the Authentication Name and Authentication Password on your phone set.

These instructions apply to Cisco 7960 series phones. If you are using a different phone please follow the manufacturer's instructions for setting your phone line authentication information.

1. Choose your INOC-DBA login and password

If you have not already done so, you must choose your login and password on the INOC-DBA web site.

New users can choose their login/password when they sign up for a new INOC-DBA account here:

https://www.pch.net/inoc-dba/console.cgi?op=new_account

If you already are in the INOC-DBA database but have not yet chosen a login/password - typically you're a long time user of INOC-DBA if this is the case - then you can do so at this URL:

https://www.pch.net/inoc-dba/console.cgi?op=choose_login

All users who are part of the INOC-DBA systam and who are already in our directory database should do this before July 9, 2004. New users, please contact operator@pch.net for instructions.

2. Unlock your phone configuration

By default, your phone configuration is locked to prevent accidental changes. You will have to unlock your phone configuration before you can change your authentication information.

  1. Access your phone Settings menu. The phone Settings menu can be accessed by hitting one of the buttons to the lower right of your phone screen. The button is either marked "Settings", or has a picture of a checkbox on it.
  2. In the phone Settings menu scroll all the way down, and select item #9 "Unlock Config".
  3. Enter your phone settings password. The default phone settings password is either "  **#  " or "  cisco  ". Don't confuse this with your authentication password - this is a different password which only protects your phone handset settings from accidental overwriting.
  4. Click "Accept" and the Settings menu will come back up.

3. Set your athentication name and password for phone line #1

  1. In the phone Settings menu choose #4 SIP Configuration. You will see six Line # Settings menu items.
  2. In the SIP Configuration menu select #1 Line 1 Settings.
  3. In the Line 1 Settings menu choose #3 Authenticaton Name. Hit the "Edit" button. Enter and save your INOC-DBA login name. This is the same login name you chose on the INOC-DBA web site.
  4. In the Line 1 Settings menu choose #4 Authentication Password. Hit the Edit button, enter and save your INOC-DBA password. This is the same password you chose on the INOC-DBA web site.

4. Repeat the procedure in step #3 above for the other 5 phone lines

All six phone lines should have the same Authentication Name and Password as your account on the INOC-DBA web site.

6. Reboot your phone

Reboot your phone by powering it off and on. The phone will fetch the configuration file from our TFTP server.

Your phone is now set up to use the INOC-DBA authentication server and should work after we make the switch to using authentication on July 9, 2004.

Thank you for using the INOC-DBA phone services.
